GENERAL PURPOSE:
Provides ordinance support to the Police Department and sworn staff, including enforcement, data entry, document processing, and filing.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
This seasonal, hourly, non-commissioned person can independently perform various ordinance-related work and assist the animal control/ordinance officer in ordinance enforcement.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Officer Manager and Police Captain.
Essential Functions:
Respond to and initiate contact with owners on ordinance violations.
Documents ordinance violations in the report management system utilizing written reports, photographs, and other legal documents.
Research property ownership.
Monitors violations until brought into compliance.
Maintains files and logs in relation to ordinance violations.
IMPORTANT:
Operates standard office equipment, including Word, report management system, computers, cameras, and telephones.
Qualifications:
Techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone.
Use specified computer applications involving county property records research, word processing, data entry, and standard report generation.
Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and operating standard office equipment.
Basic law enforcement concepts and terminology.
SKILL IN:
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
Communicating and dealing with the public in difficult situations.
Maintaining accurate records and files.
Understanding and following oral and written directions.
Entering information into a report management system (RMS).
Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Mobility to work in the field, making contacts, and occasional moderate to strenuous physical labor.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and on the telephone.
Drive a city motor vehicle.
Maintain physical and psychological levels to perform and meet the demands of the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
May attend court proceedings outside of normal working hours.
Occasional weekend hours for special events.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION:
Possess a valid Idaho Class D driver's license.
Pass a detailed background investigation.
BACKGROUND:
Any combination of education, training, experience, and knowledge would provide the required ability to perform the task of an ordinance officer.
Experience in a law enforcement setting is desirable.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
